Alberta-based Mezzo Soprano Jennifer Sproule is in her second year of the Calgary Opera Emerging Artist Development Program. Between sessions she gave a variety of operatic performances aboard the 2011 Regent Seven Seas Opera Cruise. As she hoped, this was a rare opportunity to display her talents to audiences from around the world.
Some of her most recent roles with Calgary Opera include Dorabella in Cosi Fan Tutte, Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor, Christian Keith in The Inventor, and Frau Viehmann in The Brothers Grimm. Opera roles for 2012 range from the title role in Ariodante, Second Lady in a tour production of The Magic Flute and cover role of Musetta in La Boheme (Calgary Opera).
Other career advancing roles include Meg March in Little Women (Banff Centre), Kate in Madama Butterfly (Manitoba Opera), Lady Angela in Patience (G&S Winnipeg), and Mrs. Nolan in The Medium (The Little Opera Company). Excerpt roles include Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Charlotte in Werther, Octavian in Der Rosenkavlier, title role in Carmen, and Cenerentola in La Cenerentola.
Upcoming concert performances for 2012 vary from Beethoven’s Mass in C major, community performances of The Confession Stone song cycle, and opera excerpts aboard Regent’s next Opera Cruise. Past concert performances include guest artist with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra and Mozart’s Mass in C minor with the Bow Valley Chorus.
Originally from Winnipeg, Ms. Sproule studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music, completed a Post Baccalaureate Opera Apprenticeship at the University of Manitoba, studied privately with Tracy Dahl and advanced to the upper midwest regional finals at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
